Mohbad’s family conducts independent autopsy to uncover cause of death
The family of late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has conducted a new autopsy to determine the cause of his death.
The move comes after a previous autopsy failed to reveal the circumstances surrounding his passing.
On June 26, 2024, Magistrate T.A. Shotobi of the Coroner Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, granted an order allowing Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, to arrange for an independent autopsy by a licensed pathologist. Also, the court mandated that Aloba cover all expenses related to the examination.
Furthermore, according to a statement released by Monisola Odumosu, a member of the family’s legal team, the second autopsy took place on July 19 and 20. “The second autopsy as requested by the Aloba family and ordered by the Magistrate of the Coroner Court, Ms. T.A. Shotobi, was conducted on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20, 2024. This autopsy is a two-part exercise, with the first part now completed.”
Additionally, Odumosu said that if the initial autopsy does not reveal the cause of Mohbad’s death, the family will conduct further tests. “If the cause of death cannot be determined from this initial examination, the second part will proceed, involving a toxicology and histology test on the necessary samples already obtained.”
However, the legal team revealed that Mohbad’s father, along with two independent pathologists chosen by him and Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, witnessed the procedure. “This comprehensive procedure, conducted last Friday, was witnessed only by Mr. Joseph Aloba, the forensic pathologist appointed by Mr. Joseph Aloba and his team, legal representatives of both Mr. Joseph Aloba and a pathologist appointed by Wunmi Aloba to observe the procedure.”
Meanwhile, Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. So, this sparked heated debates on social media about the circumstances of his death. Also, his body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an initial autopsy. However, a pathologist testified at the Coroner’s Court on May 15 that the cause of death could not be determined. This is due to the state of decomposition.
